HISTORY OF THE CHURCH
The church is situated on the post war Hainault housing estate built by the London County Council from 1947 onwards. A group of Methodists held their first meeting as a church in February 1950 at a local primary school, they were eventually allocated a site for the church use at the corner of Burrow Road and Holt Way.
On Saturday 5th April 1952 a foundation stone was laid and a dual purpose building was erected for week day activities and Sunday worship. The actual opening took place on the 20th September 1952.
Later, permission was given for a new seperate Church to be built adjacent to the dual purpose building and on Saturday10th December 1960 the foundation stone was laid. The building of the new church was made possible by money received as compensation from a war damaged church in Canning town which was not to be rebuilt. The official opening took place on 24th June 1961 attended by Ministers from the Ilford Circuit and other official guests.
In 1980 because of serious practical problems making the the upkeep of the two buidings impossible, it was agreed that redevelopment of the site should be considered. Discussions continued on and off until 1987 when plans were finally drawn up for major alterations to begin.
On 26th April 1987 the congrgation and all those involved in the weekday activities transferred, by their kind invitation to St Paul's, Church of England Church, Hainault, whilst work on the new chapel attached to the 1961 building was carried out. The 1961 building became the current multi-purpose hall.
The members eventually returned to the premises on 27th November 1988, the original 1952 building having been demolished to make way for houses which in order to keep a link with the past are known as Churchall Terrace.
